The sunset

Sunset on the island is an event that thrills thousands of people every day. The most popular sunset hour takes place on the coast of Ses Variades, in Sant Antoni, where the best-known DJs play music as the sun sinks into the sea, painting the entire horizon red. It is probably the most impressive sunset in the Mediterranean. Every day, crowds form in the bars and on the rocks, on yachts and sailboats, and many people choose to enjoy the moment from a hot air balloon, or while paragliding or swimming in the sea. When the sun disappears, the crowd bursts into applause.

Other unforgettable sunsets can be enjoyed at Platges de Compte. For those who prefer a more solitary environment, the ideal spot is the cliff of Cala d’Hort, opposite Es Vedrà. The silhouette of the islet surrounded by turquoise waters is one of the most representative images of Ibiza, which has attracted hippies and all kinds of scholars of enigmatic phenomena.

The island offers many solitary places to bid farewell to the day and the challenge is to discover them. Without a doubt, another of the most impressive settings is Benirràs, in the north, the favourite cove of many hippies who accompany the sunset with the rhythm of drums. The cliffs of Sant Joan, Cala Tarida and Cala Vedella are other magnificent sites to enjoy the sunset.

If you spend the whole day in Es Cavallet or Ses Salines, you can also enjoy the sunset from either beach or, if you prefer somewhere special, go to the statue of El Salinero, in front of the church of Sant Francesc, a landmark of Ibiza that lights up with the last rays of the sun and their sparkling effect on the salt ponds. In the same area, another place of pilgrimage to enjoy the sunset by the sea is Es Cap des Falcó.

And after sunset, the night can begin in such diverse ways as visiting a hippy market, or having a romantic dinner in the middle of the countryside or on the shore of the sea. For drinks, there are certain trendy places, such as certain beach-clubs or lounge-bars, where the beautiful people and many celebrities meet. For those who want a quiet drink, the Port of Santa Eulària is peaceful and there are bars for all tastes on the long promenade of Sant Antoni.
